(This song was written before I realised that the shepherd's crook, i.e. rod and staff are used to send a message to his sheep that is unique, comforting and identifies the shepherd to his flock. Rather like a lagerphone in a bush band. It's the flavour, tone and timbre of the sound that makes the bush band seem especially what it is.  You couldn't have a bush band without the sound that makes it unique! You can't have God's kingdom without the Lord Jesus Christ...)
